She has traveled in Europe and Jordan, been with a missionary in the Dominican Republic, stayed with colleagues while in Jamaica and in base communities in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Each trip has awakened new aspects of her spirituality, which shines from her and touches all whom she meets.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

Day 1: May 3: Group departure from JFK. Overnight Flight to Istanbul.

Day 2: May 4: Arrive in Istanbul and will change planes to fly to Antakya. Overnight in Hatay (D)

Day 3: May 5: Visit the Antakya Museum, famous for its collection of Roman mosaics, which vividly depict the lively days of the Roman period, and visit Church (Grotto) of St. Peter. (B, D)

Day 4: May 6: See Tarsus, the birthplace of St. Paul (B, D)

Day 5: May 7: Drive to Cappadocia, a region covered with soft volcanic tuff, which formed odd, conic forms of gray-yellow rock. Early Christians fled from persecution to the area and carved dwellings and churches in these rock formations. (B, D)

Day 6: May 8:full day tour of Cappadocia region. (B, D)

Day 7: May 9: Drive to Konya, ancient Iconium, St. Paul preached here on his first missionary journey. See the Whirling Dervishes. (B, D)

Day 8: May 10: Tour Perge, see Greco-Roman theater of Aspendos, afternoon at leisure. (B, D)

Day 9: May 11: Leave Antalya for Kusadasi. On the way we will visit Aphrodisias. (B, D)

Day 10: May 12: Highlight of our journey, a tour of Ephesus, see the Temple of Diana, and the house of Virgin Mary. (B, D)

Day 11: May 13: Istanbul: Enjoy a full day of sightseeing in this amazing, ancient city. (B, D)

Apostle Paul walked his journey most of the time, and sometimes he stayed in those places months, even years. He risked his life for his missionary work and was martyred at the end. St. Peter’s Grottos Church is one of more than twenty fourth-century churches uncovered in Antioch. According to tradition, this cave was used for secret meetings of Antiochene Christians avoiding persecution. Tradition says that Peter preached and taught here while he was in the city 47-54 A.D.

Of all the apostles, Paul stands out as the one who was the roamer, the traveler, and the missionary. His journeys through the ancient world are nothing short of remarkable, and given the difficulties of traveling in these times, it is a credit to the endurance and faith of this man that he accomplished as much as he did for the early Christian churches.

Known to the west as Whirling Dervishes, the members of the Mevlevi Order (named for their founder Mevlana) from Konya lived in what we might call coisters or monasteries - what to them was a Mevlevihane.
