TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

Day 1: Travel. Arrival at Delhi International Airport. Overnight at the Delhi hotel.

Day 2: Following breakfast, transfer to airport for flight to Leh. Overnight at the Leh hotel. (B)

The seated Buddha at Shey Palace is 12 meters high and constructed of copper sheets gilded with gold. This statue was made in 1655 by a Nepalese sculptor who was assisted by three Ladakhi craftsmen. The statue was built in parts in the Zanstil Palace in Leh and transported to Shey where it was assembled and installed. Sacrificial offerings such as grain, jewels, holy signs and mantras are held inside the figure.

Day 3: Enjoy a full day of sightseeing around Leh including three gompas (monasteries): Shey, Thiksey and Hemis.  (B, D)

Day 4: Tour Chumathan for Tso Moriri, a serene and picturesque lake in the Rupsu Valley. (B, D)

Day 5: Continuing your stay at the Tso Moriri tent camp, explore the area with a visit to the nearby Korzok gompa. Now acclimated to the high-altitude mountain air, enjoy walking and some light trekking through the valley.  (B, D)

Day 6: Spend the day enjoying the magnificent surroundings of this majestic mountain region. Overnight in the Leh. (B, D)

Day 7: Drive to the Nubra Valleyvia Khardung La–a high mountain pass reaching dizzying heights of 5359 meters above sea level. (B, D)

Day 8: Enjoy a full day of walking in this sublime and humbling mountain environment, including both small villages as well as gompas throughout the valley. (B, D)

Day 9: Day of Leisure. (B, D)

The Alchi Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. The monastery is known for its magnificent and well-preserved wall paintings (1,000+ years old).

 

Day 10: Transfer by coach to the Alchi Monastery, then on to Likirwhere you can enjoy a hike to the Klu-kkhyil Gompa. (B, D)

Day 11: Take a morning drive to the Lamayuru Monastery via two impressive mountain passes –Fotu Laand Namika La–on the way to Mulbek. Continue on to Kargilalong the Suru River. 

Day 12: Enjoy a drive through the glorious Kashmiri mountains on the way to the summer capital, Srinagar Transfer to your deluxe houseboat for the evening. (B, D)

Days 13- 15: Enjoy three full days on board your houseboat on picturesque Dal Lake.
Trips by water taxi are available for excursions to the city to explore architecture, markets and the formal gardens.
Take time to observe the unique river life. (B, L, D)

Day 16: Transfer to Delhi for a day of Leisure. (B, D)

Jama Masjid: This great mosque in Old Delhi is the largest in India and has a courtyard that can hold 25,000 devotees. Construction began in 1644. It was the final architectural extravagance of Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor.

 

Day 17: Enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Old and New Delhi including Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Bahi’s Temple, and Humayun’s Tomb. Transfer to the Delhi airport for the return flight to the US.

Ladakh is a region of Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state of India. It lies between the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the Great Himalayas to the south. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Kashmir. It is sometimes referred to as "Little Tibet" as it has been strongly influenced by Tibetan culture. The largest town in Ladakh is Leh. A majority of Ladakhis are Tibetan Buddhists and the rest are mostly Shia Muslims.

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Meath Conlan has been a counselor and spiritual director to hundreds of men and women. He desires to share insights that have motivated and deepened his personal his personal life-understanding.

 

Born in Australia, Meath found a mentor and friend in Bede Griffiths, an English Benedictine who, for over 30 years, resided in and taught at Saccidananda Ashram in South India. Through him, Meath’s outlook and sensitivity expanded to embrace a tolerant and inclusive understanding of all philosophies and spiritual traditions.

Meath desires to share insights that have motivated and deepened his personal life-understanding. He has a quiet yet lively style of presentation –rich with anecdotes drawn from his own life and the lives of those with whom he has lived.

 

Meath holds a Master of Arts degree from Fordham University, New York, and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of South Australia in Adelaide.
