Itinerary; Adventuring Down Under

Day
1 - Meet in Mackay, in Australia’s
Queensland state, and drive to Eungella National Park,
a unique rainforest with many endemic species. Hike to
Araluen Falls and take a refreshing dip in its pools.
Day
2 - Early morning search for the legendary but
elusive platypus, then hike along the Clarke Range for
stunning views out over the coast. Drive to Airlie
Beach, a picturesque town on the Whitsunday Coast.
Day
3 - Board a boat and head out across the
aquamarine waters of the Coral Sea for a day of incredible
snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef.
Day
4 - Hike up Mount Rooper in Conway National
Park with views out over the Whitsunday Island group,
then head to Rockhampton, in Cattle Country.

Day
5 - Go spelunking (dry caving)—no
experience needed—or explore the cave in a less
challenging manner. Then, head south into the
Outback to the Myella Outback Cattle Ranch, or
“Station” as it’s known here. |
Day
6 - Explore the ranch on horseback (beginners
welcome!), then drive to the historic coastal town of 1770,
where Captain Cook first landed in his discovery of
Australia.
Day
7 - A day to hike and sea kayak along the
coastal headlands, or simply stroll along the beach.
Optional snorkeling or diving excursion to Lady Musgrave
Island National Park.
Day
8 - Try your hand at surfing on 1770’s
secluded beaches! Later, ferry to Fraser Island, a
World Heritage Park on the edge of the oceanic continental
shelf.

Day
9 - Explore Fraser Island’s unique
rainforest and wildlife, freshwater lakes, mighty
sand dunes, and the shipwrecks along
Seventy-Five-Mile Beach. Optional marine cruises or
canoe paddles to see whales, dolphins, dugong, and
sea birds.

Day
10 - Ferry back to the mainland for a hike in
the sub-tropical rainforests of Kondalilla National
Park, whose aboriginal name translates as “rushing
waters.” Continue to the quaint town of Montville.
Day
11 - Visit the Australia Zoo, a center for
rescued and endangered animals, en route to Brisbane
and your departure home.
