![]() “Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit” Vince Lombardi In 2010, I will celebrate the 15th anniversary of my liver transplant. My liver disease was a genetic one, so after the transplant I actually became healthy for the first time in a long time. Surveys show that 90% of Americans support organ donation but only 30% understand how to become a donor. I’m climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with the American Cancer Society climbers for several reasons. |
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ First, to raise awareness for organ donation. Second, to raise funds for a local facility being built for people undergoing transplants to stay at when they come to Rochester from out of town for medical care. Third, I’m planning a way for people to pay tribute to those who died and became donors. And finally, standing on the top of Mt Kilimanjaro will be a personal triumph marking how far I’ve come from the day I was told, “we have a liver for you." ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
